Crafting in the Dome
We started our morning tucked into the dome where the creative juices were already flowing. The girls got cozy with crafts and stories, chatting away and settling into the day together.
Fire, Hot Chocolate, and Mashed Potatoes
Once we got the fire going, the girls took charge of everything. They boiled the milk for hot chocolate, measured it out, mixed it up, and passed it around like a well-oiled team. Then they decided mashed potatoes were on the menu too, so they got to work on that. While all this was happening, some girls were sledding on the tiny Heron Tree Estates hill, others were pulling each other around the yard in sleds, and the mud kitchen was bustling with its usual imaginative chaos. I kept the stories going in between everything.
Big Hills and Big Effort
After lunch we headed to Dandelion Hill for some bigger sledding. There’s nothing quite like tobogganing for testing perseverance, determination, and a growth mindset. The girls tried holding on to each other as they sped down, then switched to tying saucers together which had mixed and very funny results.
Snowmen, Sticky Sap, and a Game of Hockey
Off to the side one girl was building a snowman while others tried to figure out how to climb a slippery pole. The sap from a nearby pine tree ended up being the key. Once someone tried climbing the actual trees the rest quickly lined up for their turn. In the middle of all this, someone noticed a hockey stick sticking up from the snow and soon discovered my secret stash of sticks and nets. Within minutes a full hockey game broke out, complete with a referee and coaches. It was amazing.
The Zamboni Break
They were so into the game that I had to call for a mandatory break so the "Zamboni" could clean the ice. It also gave everyone a chance to drink some water and catch their breath.
Pumpkin Carving and Mashed Potato Tasting
A leftover pumpkin from Halloween caught their attention and turned into a little carving project. Just as we were wrapping that up, one girl called everyone into the dome to try the mashed potatoes from earlier. They coordinated everything, passing out plates, utensils, butter, and of course the star of the show. We finished with some quick tidying just as parents started to arrive.
Thanks for a great day, Wildflowers!
