A Morning Mystery
As everyone arrived we noticed a little mystery waiting for us. A piece of fur was stuck in one of the V’s of the bird feeder. The theories came fast. Maybe it was Garth’s fur. Maybe a skunk or raccoon had climbed up. My guess was a squirrel trying to sneak some bird seed and catching the tip of its tail. It was fun watching them use the clues and get right into their nature detective mode.
Fire and Hot Chocolate Math
After feeding the birds we built a fire and the kids got to work making hot chocolate. I gave them a set amount of powder for the whole day and ten mini marshmallows each. It was a perfect mix of math practice, portioning, and taking only what you need.
Tracks, Trees, and a T-Rex Sighting
We headed off to the flats where some sharp-eyed Earthkeepers spotted tracks in the snow. While we were exploring a daddy long-legs was accidentally squished which led to a very sweet burial and a handmade grave marker. We watched the ducks, checked on last week’s forts, climbed trees, and even discovered what the kids insisted were t-rex tracks.
Stories and Crafts in the Dome
Back in the dome we settled in with books. The Pigeon Finds a Hotdog was a favourite this week and got a lot of giggles. The girls got crafty while the boys were happily reading. We tried out some colouring and weaving.
Backyard Fun and New Skills
Outside again the dogs got lots of attention as the kids chased them around and folded them into their games. A few kids learned how to use an axe safely which they were very proud of.
Snowballs, Sleds, and Fresh Hot Chocolate
We had another round of hot chocolate, washed everything up, and headed to the playground. The sledding turned into a full Olympic-style competition with scores out of ten for each run. Then came snow angels and an enthusiastic snowball fight. I opened a little “store” selling pre-made snowballs in different sizes which quickly attracted both employees and customers.
Heading Home
We wrapped up the day tired, snowy, and happy.
Thanks for a great day, Sprouts!
