Sprouts: May 8th
With Earthkeepers bouncing with energy, we kicked things off with a game to move our bodies and laugh together. “Critter Parade” had us lunging like herons, bear-crawling like raccoons, hopping like frogs, leaping like deer, and waddling like ducks. It was the perfect way to warm up our muscles and our smiles.
After all that movement, we settled into community circle to greet each other and welcome a new Earthkeeper friend, who impressed everyone with his enthusiastic animal moves and incredible jumping skills!
Spring means tending the land in new ways. Earthkeepers fed the birds, cleaned their bath, watered the flowers, and made sure our canine friends had full water bowls too. Many hands made quick work—and the land noticed our care.
We learned a new song to help us remember how to do risk assessments (🎶)—a gentle reminder that noticing and naming risks helps us explore safely and bravely.
Free play followed, with Earthkeepers blowing bubbles, painting with dandelions, swinging in the hammock, and digging through treasures at the discovery table.
After snack (and some silly songs!), we headed to Dandelion Hill with art in mind… but the trees were calling to us. One Earthkeeper showed us his tree-climbing skills—checking branch strength, holding close to the trunk, and making a plan to climb down safely. Such a strong role model for risky play done right!
Though the sun had promised a visit, the day stayed cool and grey—perfect for an impromptu fire. We warmed up with pancakes and maple syrup, made from sap gifted by our very own Sarah Maple earlier this spring.
Our afternoon adventure took us toward the Flats, and a sharp-eyed Earthkeeper spotted a family of goslings from over the railing. We decided to give them space and went to Silly Goose Beach.
The shallow water there was perfect for wading and exploring, even if a little chilly. Our biggest surprise? A crawdad—and one Earthkeeper was brave (and silly!) enough to wear it as an earring! 🦞💛
What a day! The rain held off, the goslings showed up, and we closed out the day full of pancakes, laughter, and river magic.
Thanks for a great day, Earthkeepers 🌿
