Seedlings: May 6th

What a beautiful first day with our little Seedlings! 🌱
Right from the start, our curious crew dove into exploring the discovery table, eager to see what treasures and tools were waiting for them. It wasn’t long before they were making discoveries of their own—finding plants around the yard and using a field guide to try and figure out what they were. Future botanists in the making!

A big hit of the morning? Worm digging! Little hands dug into the soil, measuring wriggly worm friends and marveling at their movements. During snack, we shared some laughs with Diary of a Worm—a perfect story for our muddy adventures!

Afterward, it was time to get creative—each Seedling painted their own flowerpot, which we set aside to dry, ready for planting later in the day. The mud kitchen was alive with activity: experimenting with utensils, grinding chalk into colourful “paint,” and preparing a gourmet “shell soup.”

Lunchtime was full of giggles and new connections, as our Seedlings got to know each other and shared stories.

Once our pots were dry, we planted flowers and even tucked some into the garden bed—with one Seedling making sure our planting hole was just right with a measuring tape in hand!

In the afternoon, we visited Dandelion Hill, which was glowing with a sea of yellow blooms. With cardboard vases in hand—including one personalized with Spiderman webs—we gathered flowers and made beautiful dandelion art.

We followed the trail of yellow all the way to Blackfriars Park, where we found all sorts of magic: a bird’s egg (we’ll try to identify it soon!), tiny fairy homes in the trees, and a pair of Mourning Doves nesting in their usual spot inside the play structure. Maybe we’ll make a sign to remind visitors to be respectful of their space.

We ended our lovely day with a gentle swing in the hammock, full of play, discovery, and new friendships.

Thanks for a wonderful start, Seedlings! 🌼
We can’t wait to see what grows from here.
