Sprouts: May 22nd
Today we had a very special visitor—a lifelong forager—who took us on an incredible plant walk! 🌿
We started at Heron Tree Estates, where we discovered that even the backyard was full of edible and medicinal plants. We learned about:
Broad-leaf plantain (soothing for bug bites)
Wood sorrel (delicious and lemony!)
Garlic mustard, hosta, dandelion, and more!
We made our way out into the neighborhood, greeting ducklings in the river and respectfully passing by a protective group of geese and goslings. 🐣
At the Blackfriars Community Garden, we explored onion, garlic, raspberries, and leeks.
After all that plant-snacking, our bellies were ready for lunch. We thanked our wonderful guest and fueled up for a busy afternoon!
The afternoon brought creative free play:
🎨 Potions in the mud kitchen—one that grows things ($58 a bottle!) and another that turns things into rubies ($1000, but worth every penny).
🏰 Castle building and chalk painting
💌 Letter-writing to our fairy friend, Finny
🧚 A magical trip to Underwater Kingdom, where Alfie the white duck came to say hello! Some Earthkeepers sat quietly to help him feel safe meeting new friends.
🐛 Others went bug hunting—very seriously—requiring “total silence” (according to the very official bug hunters).
🗑 Everyone took turns with the garbage pickers, taking care of the land with pride.
We wrapped up the day with music and dancing, forming our very own forest band.
Thanks for a great day Earthkeepers!
