Seedlings: May 20th
Some very excited Earthkeepers got letters back from Finny the Fairy today! Their drawings last week brought a smile to her face, I wonder how she’ll fit them all in her tiny fairy home?✉️✨
We got things started with a book; Bee Dance by Rick Chrustowski, then danced our way through a chalk maze of zig-zags, loops, and spirals until we found a patch of chalk-drawn flowers 🌸🐝
Then we crushed up our own chalk paint (pound, pour, paint!) and created a rainbow of colours that any bee would be sure to enjoy! From there we got into the bubbles, and then a very enthusiastic game of "What Time is it Mr. Wolf?" The cooperation and kindness were beautiful to see.
💛 In the middle of all the fun, one child found a baby bird who had passed. The group was thoughtful and curious—wondering gently about how it might have happened. We buried the bird together, shared kind words for his spirit, and later painted rocks to decorate his grave. It was a tender, respectful moment, and the kids really rose to it.
After snack we played in the mud kitchen, read stories in the hammock, and had a “digging contest” (only they know what the contest was, I never found out 😆)
Then we found a toad (!) and formed a band! 🥁🥄 We had upturned bucket drums, a colander shaker, and a cooking grate guiro.
Everyone took a turn with a solo before we returned to the bird’s resting place to offer our music (“Mr. Golden Sun”) and say a final goodbye.
A full day of dancing, discovery, creativity, and compassion 🌈🌿
Thanks for the magic, Seedlings.
