Sprouts: June 5th

We started the day cozied up under our shelter with a good old-fashioned Morning Rectangle (circle’s rainy-day cousin 😉). One proud Earthkeeper shared that he’d learned to whistle—music to our ears!

Then we crossed Blackfriars Bridge and headed down Cardinal Hill to Sunshine Field. Along the way, we spotted blooming flowers, ducks and geese, and even discovered a honey locust tree that rained on us when we gave it a good shake—what fun!

At the field, we played “Sun’s Out” and tried a new favourite: Banana Tag 🍌 (ask your Earthkeeper how to play!). On the way back, coats were ditched and our trusty friend Garth (the world's best coat-carrying dog) hauled them back like a champ 🐾

We paused at a retaining wall for a little climbing challenge. It turned into a great chance to practice risk assessment:
– Is the surface slippery?
– Where should my eyes be looking?
– Is it getting higher, and do I still feel safe?
Everyone showed excellent judgment and body awareness 👣

Back at Heron Tree Estates, the creative juices flowed:
💌 Letters to Finny
🎨 Pictures for friends
🥄 Maple syrup cupcakes in the mud kitchen
🎭 Sculptures of flowers, bugs, and bold abstract creations with plasticine

After lunch, we set out again for The Flats. It’s amazing how lush and green everything is now—spring is definitely here. The Earthkeepers love picking flowers for their families, and I always feel touched when I receive one too 💐

They’re also becoming experts at reading the river: noticing changes in water level, shoreline, and even the colours of the rocks. Visiting the same place again and again helps us really know it, and care for it.

We wrapped up the day with a sing-along and said goodbye until next week.

Thanks for a great day Earthkeepers!
