Sprouts: October 23, 2025

It was a chilly, rainy day, but that didn’t stop our adventure! One of the girls offered to take us on a walk to show us where she lives nearby, and we happily followed her lead. Along the way we discovered so many new parts of our local world. From above, we got a whole new view of The Flats and noticed all the creatures living there—squirrels, birds, and more.

As we traveled, some kids collected leaves and rocks, while our guide gave detailed directions and impressed us with her knowledge of the route. The walk took us through Victoria Park, where the group was thrilled to see the Holy Roller tank memorial. At the bandstand, we experimented with echoes and different sounds of our voices.

We found a giant puddle along the way, and of course, everyone had to stop to splash and run through it!

Back at the house, we warmed up with a snack around the fire and experimented with making our own stick “pencils”.

Next we headed to the playground. There they made a huge leaf pile at the bottom of the slide and played for ages. They practiced communication and negotiated throwing leaves at each other as they took turns sliding; they even convinced me to take a turn!

We took a break from leaf throwing to observe an Oriole nest in a nearby maple tree, and the wasps nest hanging from a different branch nearby. Then, one boy collected items for his “rat friend” Templeton, while others happily continued their imaginative games until the very end of the day.

Thanks for a great day Sprouts!
