Adventure Into the World

We set off right away to Riverside Arches, a new spot for most of the Earthkeepers. On the way they enjoyed climbing the retaining wall on Cardinal Hill, showing good risk assessment skills. We warmed up with a few rounds of tag and then I read The Pigeon Needs A Bath - while they were ironically sitting on a huge dirt pile!

The pile of dirt was a fun spot to plant our “flags” (sticks with scarves tied to them) and watch the wind work its magic. We also built the beginnings of an excellent fort.

Snack and Story

After a while we headed back to Heron Tree Estates for a snack. They can’t get enough of that silly pigeon, and we enjoyed the stories of his plan to get a puppy, and of course, what happens when he finds a hot dog. Some Earthkeepers continued reading on their own, while the rest of us took turns drawing animals for each other to guess.

Artists At Work

One of the boys asked if we could do crafts, and I aim to please! I pulled out the supplies and they started working on various drawings and mini booklets with their own stories they dictated to me.

Hooty Hoo!

The wind continued to rage outside, so we stayed cozy in the dome and played a new board game. Hoot Owl Hoot sees players working together to move all the owls back to their nest before the sun rises. Nothing like a cooperative challenge to see planning, strategizing, and problem solving in action! After the owls made it home a few times we played Memory Match with the mushroom deck I have, the kids enjoyed handing their cards to me when they found a match so that I could read the name out for them. Who knew there were SO many types of mushrooms?!

Trail’s End

Eventually it was time to bundle back up and face the wind! Parent’s arrived and we said goodbye until next week.

Thanks for a great day Sprouts!
